After a long wait we are proud to announce that this years GRAND NATIONAL WINNER is…
OCEANZ SEAFOOD SILVERDALE
A HUGE Congratulation to Richard and Daniel and his team.
The 2013 Best Chip Competition is out to acknowledge all your hard-work!
After months of deliberation, checking through entry forms, fat testing chips at the lab and mystery judging we finally have our winners. Both Regional Winners and Highly Commended Awards from each of the six regions, are named below.
Remember – Highly Commended Awards are given to operators whose chips, upon fat testing, contained less than 9% fat. Which means they are doing their bit to follow our Industry Standards.
For this competition participants were required to have a current certificate for the Chip Group Training. The impact of training was reflected in the lower chip fat content for the Highly Commended shops (7.8%) compared with 9.9% for the 18 regional finalists winners in the previous 2011 competition.
For those of you who didn’t receive a Highly Commended Award – now’s the time to check the temperature of those vats and make sure you and your staff are shake, banging and hanging. Keep working hard on providing your customers with the best quality and lowest fat chips you can serve, and start practising for the next competition.
A HUGE Congratulations to the following Regional Winners and Highly Commended Awards…
Northshore-Northland Regional Winner
Oceanz Seafood Silverdale
Richard & Daniel Billington
Cnr Hibiscus Coast and East Coast Rd, Silverdale, North Shore.
Richard said that high quality product and exceptional care of oil were vital to their great product.
“Every chip is different and every batch of chips is different and you have to be aware of that and adjust your cooking methods accordingly,” he said. “Adhering to the Chip Group industry standards is really important. Giving a very good shake and a bang gives much crisper, dryer chips. When they hear the bang customers joke that we are panel beating our chips, but it makes all the difference to the end product.”
