Terms & Conditions – 2019

By participating in The Chip GroupTM Best Chip Shop Competition you agree to the following terms and conditions.

Promoting good practice is the aim of the competition.

Trade:

  1. The promotion is known as: The Chip GroupTM People’s Choice and Judges’ Supreme Awards 2019.
  2. The Competition is executed on behalf of “The Chip GroupTM”, a collaborative industry venture involving: The Ministry of Health, McCain Foods (NZ) Limited, Mr Chips Limited, Talleys and Potatoes New Zealand.
  3. The 7 regions are: (1) Northland to Auckland’s North Shore; (2) Rest of Auckland; (3) Waikato to Whanganui (4) Gisborne & Hawkes Bay; (5) Manawatu to Wellington; (6) Nelson/ Marlborough to Christchurch and; (7) Timaru to Southland.
  4. Entries to the competition must be on the official The Chip GroupTM Register Your Entry Form 2019 – either hard copy or electronic.
  5. Entrants meeting the entry criteria as stated on the entry form will be:
    • Allocated an entry number.
    • Invited to submit a chip sample to be be analyzed for fat content (by laboratory analysis).
    • Invited participants will receive an official bag for their chip sample and a pre-paid postal pack to return the sample in.
    • A sample of twelve chips, in the supplied chip sample bag must be dispatched in the supplied postal pack by 21st June.
  6. Participants meeting the entry criteria, as outlined in the entry form, and have their fat analysis below 9% will receive a Highly Commended Award.
  7. Prizes for each of the Highly Commended entries will be a certificate and entry for Judges’ Supreme Award.
  8. Mystery Judges will select Regional Winners from the Highly Commended participants.
  9. Mystery Judges will select one Supreme winner.
  10. Mystery judging can take place on any transaction, at any time during the period July 16th-31st 2019, and will be undertaken by officers or appointees of The Chip GroupTM.
  11. Mystery judging criteria will include: display of The Chip GroupTM Training Certificate, chip taste, chip texture, chip fat content (by laboratory analysis), adherence to Industry Standards (Tips for Better Chips), shop cleanliness and customer service.
  12. The laboratory analysis associated with any of the judging criteria and scores will not be published.

  14. Prizes for each of the Regional Winners of People’s Choice will be:
    • Travel & accommodation to Awards Dinner in Christchurch on 14th August 2019.
    • a framed certificate for their shop.
    • a set of three of The Chip GroupTM aprons and caps branded Regional Winner People’s Choice.
    • plus local publicity if the competition and results are picked up by local news media.
  15. Prizes for the People’s Choice Winner will be:
    • Travel & accommodation to Awards Dinner in Christchurch on 14th August 2019.
    • a framed certificate.
    • a set of three of The Chip GroupTM aprons and caps branded People’s Choice.
    • sponsors product prizes to the value of $200.
    • a footpath sign.
    • Harvey Norman voucher to the value of $1000.
    • plus publicity if the competition and results are picked up by local/national news media.
  16. Prizes for the Judges’ Supreme Award will be:
    • Travel & accommodation to Awards Dinner in Christchurch on 14th August 2019.
    • a framed certificate.
    • a set of three of The Chip GroupTM aprons and caps branded Judges’ Supreme.
    • sponsors product prizes to the value of $200.
    • a footpath sign.
    • Harvey Norman voucher to the value of $1000.
    • plus publicity if the competition and results are picked up by local/national news media.
  17. Stores entered may use any cooking oil, tallow or chip during the Competition but the Chip Group recommends outlets should follow the guidelines as set in the Industry Standards (www.thechipgroup.co.nz).
  18. Winning stores may not advertise the brand of cooking oil/tallow or chip type they use in association with their winning status without The Chip Group’sTM permission.
  19. The winning stores cannot make any reference to The Ministry of Health of New Zealand in their stores, except as contained in official Competition point of sale and awards provided to the stores by or on behalf of The Chip GroupTM.
  20. The judges’ decision is final.
  21. No correspondence will be entered into.
