Nelson operators grateful for expert advice!

posted in: News 0

The Chip Group’s latest seminar took place in Nelson on Monday 15th October. Held in the Nick Smith Rooms, we had a range of operators from Richmond, Stoke and Nelson town centre.

Michael Huang made the trip all the way from Rotorua, and it was greatly appreciated by all who attended. As we went though our nine training modules covering everything from Chip size to Oil Maintenace to Basket Drainage. Everyone who attended took away some valuable information and wished they had brought more of their staff along!

Calvert James from Seabreeze City Takeaways, has already made significant changes to his business following the seminar. “After hearing from Michael, I have decided to make the change to Rice Bran Oil and our chips are cooking up beautifully.” he said.

Following the training Michael and I had the opportunity to personally visit a few stores to give them a chance to chat about the industry, how they can improve their business and a chance to ask Michael any questions.

John from Queen St Fish Supplies in Richmond is relatively new to the industry after taking over around 8 months ago. “Thanks so much for taking the time to come and visit me, I’m going to get all of my staff to go online and complete the training.” He was extremely grateful for our visit and could not thank Michael enough for sharing some inside advice after 20 years in the industry.

A big Thanks goes to Averil West, the Heart Health Advocate for the Nelson/Marlborough region from the Heart Foundation for her and her teams efforts to recruit retailers, and to the local council for letting us use the venue free of charge. Local media were present to capture the event, including radio, local TV and newspaper.

Congratulations to the following businesses for taking a step towards ‘Making Better Chips’

  • Seabreeze City Takeaways
  • Yummy Food
  • Richmond St Takeaways
  • Two Little Fish
  • Queen St Fish Supplies, Richmond
  • The Sands Fish and Chips

We are looking forward to helping and inspiring more operators to improve their own business and most importantly the nutritional quality of deep-fried chips.
